Stewart R. Horejsi

Founder

Stewart’s journey to success began in 1962 when he graduated from the University of Kansas and joined his family’s welding company in Salina, Kansas. He rose to the helm of the family business but ran into major challenges in the 1980s after competitors moved into the sunflower state. Around this time, Stewart learned about the habits and strategies of the world’s most successful investors, including Warren Buffet. Inspired by Buffet’s approach, Stewart began purchasing Berkshire Hathaway stock in 1980. Stewart continued to amass shares in Berkshire and eventually founded an investment advisory firm, emulating the core tenants of Warren Buffet’s philosophy. While Stewart retired from the firm in 2022, SRH Advisors remains rooted in Stewart’s disciplined investment process.

Joel Looney, CFP

CEO, CIO, and Portfolio Manager

Joel Looney, CFP, serves as Chief Executive Office, Chief Investment Officer and Portfolio Manager for SRH Advisors. In these roles, Mr. Looney is responsible for supervising the overall advisory services provided by SRH Advisors, as well as for the day-to-day portfolio management of the SRH Total Return Fund and SRH REIT Covered Call Fund. Mr. Looney is also an “investment adviser representative” who provides investment management and financial planning services to a group of SRH Advisors private clients.

Prior to joining SRH Advisors in 2013, Mr. Looney was the Principal for Financial Management Group, LLC, an investment management firm, from 1999 to 2013. Prior to forming Financial Management Group, LLC, he was the Chief Financial Officer for Bethany College in Lindsborg, KS from 1995 to 1999. Mr. Looney formerly served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Boulder Total Return Fund, The Denali Fund and the First Opportunity Fund. Mr. Looney currently serves as President and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the SRH Total Return Fund.

Mr. Looney holds an M.B.A from Kansas State University and a B.S. from Marymount College. Mr. Looney is also a CFP professional.

Jacob Hemmer, CFA

Office Manager and Portfolio Manager

SRH Advisors

Jacob Hemmer, CFA, serves as Office Manager and Portfolio Manager for SRH Advisors. In this role, Mr. Hemmer is responsible for providing investment research on current and potential holdings, as well as day-to-day portfolio management for the SRH Total Return Fund and SRH REIT Covered Call Fund. Mr. Hemmer is also heavily involved in the management and administration of an index utilized by the SRH U.S. Quality ETF. Mr. Hemmer is an “investment adviser representative” who provides investment management services to a group of RMA private clients.

Prior to joining SRH Advisors in 2018, Mr. Hemmer was a Financial Advisor for Raymond James Financial Service, Inc. dba. Hampton Financial from 2012 to 2018. Mr. Hemmer holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Colorado State University.

Mr. Hemmer is also a CFA charterholder.

Nicole Murphey

Chief Compliance Officer

SRH Advisors

Nicole Murphey serves as SRH Advisors’ CCO and fund operations manager. Ms. Murphey performs these roles in a consulting capacity through her firm, Whistlepig Compliance Solutions, LLC (“WCS”), and is primarily responsible for supervising SRH Advisors’ compliance programs and policies as well as the operation of the fund business at SRH Advisors. Ms. Murphey serves as Chief Compliance Officer for another SEC registered investment adviser and is a compliance consultant to Paralel. Ms. Murphey also serves as an interested director of SRH Total Return Fund, Inc. (STEW).

Ms. Murphey has over twenty-five years’ experience in the closed-end fund industry, focusing on fund and adviser operations, compliance, and, prior to the closure of SRH Advisors’ Boulder office in 2018, had been heavily involved in the day-to-day management and administration of the Fund, Fund Administrative Services and RMA. Prior to founding WCS, Ms. Murphey was Vice President of SRH Advisors, Assistant Manager of Fund Administrative Services, and Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Boulder Growth and Income Fund, Inc. (BIF).

Ms. Murphey holds a B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Colorado.

Jake Knebel

Securities Analyst

SRH Advisors

Jake Knebel serves as a Securities Analyst for SRH Advisors. In this role, Mr. Knebel is responsible for producing investment research on current and potential portfolio holdings for the SRH Total Return Fund. Prior to joining SRH Advisors in 2022, Mr. Knebel was a Research Analyst for Grow Funds LLC, an actively managed hedge fund specializing in small cap equities from 2021 to 2022.

Mr. Knebel holds a B.A. in Economics and Accounting from University of California, Santa Barbara, and a MS in Finance from University of San Diego. Mr. Knebel completed Level II of the CFA program in 2024.

Corey Bowen

Junior Securities Analyst

Corey Bowen serves as a Junior Securities Analyst for SRH Advisors. In this role, Mr. Bowen is responsible for producing investment research on current and potential portfolio holdings for the SRH Total Return Fund and SRH REIT Covered Call Fund.

Mr. Bowen holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Kansas State University. Mr. Bowen completed Level I of the CFA program in 2024.

Jeremy May

Prior to founding Paralel, Jeremy spent 24 years at ALPS as part of the executive team that grew the business from a startup to an eventual sale to a large public company. When he retired in 2019, Jeremy was President of ALPS Fund Services and ALPS Distributors. Before joining ALPS, Jeremy was an auditor with Deloitte where he earned his CPA. Jeremy serves as an independent director on a number of investment company boards including Russell Funds. Passionate about philanthropy, Jeremy currently serves as Vice-Chair of the Board of Directors of the University of Colorado Foundation, as a Trustee of the A.V. Hunter Trust, the oldest private foundation in Colorado, and on the advisory board of the Renee Crown Wellness Institute at the University of Colorado. Jeremy holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Colorado.

Chris Moore

Chris has more than 16 years of legal and accounting experience in the investment management industry. Prior to joining Paralel, Chris was the Deputy General Counsel and Legal Operations Manager at RiverNorth Capital Management, LLC, a boutique investment advisor. Prior to that, Chris spent four years as Vice President and Senior Counsel at SS&C/ALPS where he served as an executive officer to ALPS’ open-end series trusts as well as numerous closed-end funds. Before joining SS&C/ALPS, Chris was an Associate at Thompson Hine LLP, Corporate Counsel at DSW Inc., and a CPA Audit and Assurance Associate at Ernst & Young LLP. Chris holds a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, a Masters in Accounting from Grand Valley State, and a JD from THE Ohio State University.

Dan Sen

Senior Investment Analyst

Dan has over 10 years of experience in the investment management and financial services industry. Prior to joining Paralel, Dan served as a senior analyst with the ETF portfolio management and research team at ALPS Advisors. In this role, he was actively involved in the portfolio management, trading, and research functions for ALPS ETFs and passive funds. Dan also played a key role in developing quantitative passive investment strategies and led the management of the firm’s proprietary index. Dan holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Saint Louis University. He is a CFA® charterholder and a member of the CFA Institute and CFA Society Colorado.
